“Airbnb has totally changed my life and given it a bigger sense of purpose. As someone who loves to ‘dote on’ people, and as someone that is super-organized and loves to find and share useful information with others, being an Airbnb host is a perfect fit for me. I help tourists understand how to navigate the sometimes confusing NYC subway system. I give them insider tips on cool (often ‘free’) things to do in the city. As a host in Astoria, my guests get to see a totally different (non-touristy) side of NYC. I take them around my neighborhood, to my favorite Greek taverna, show them the different ethnic enclaves of Astoria, etc. My guests end up having more of an authentic and rich tourist experience…something they would never get staying in a hotel. I have even developed some nice friendships with some of my guests, and we have remained in touch. Why I recently even had some repeat Airbnb guests. All my visitors remark what a great host I am. I also offer a full self-serve breakfast (all organic) and homemade smoothies, nut milks, rice milk, fruit drinks etc. Where else would they find places to stay like mine except via Airbnb?!”

“I cannot say enough about all the wonderful people I have met over the few years since I have started hosting. It’s almost like I have been traveling to all those countries myself, as most of my guests enjoyed so much sharing their experiences of traveling and their knowledge about their country. It has made me feel alive and younger.”

“In our third year of retirement , my wife and I realized that the cost of keeping up our beloved home was becoming impossible on our fixed income. Moving out of the area, away from our family and friends, seemed like the only answer. We began hosting with the AirBnB community in June . We now feel that we have a way to stay in the home we love. with children and grandchildren close by, we can truly enjoy our well deserved retirement .”

I opened up my apartment in the post-Sandy days, hoping to do my part to help displaced people, rescue workers - whoever needed some free space

I opened up my apartment in the post-Sandy days, hoping to do my part to help displaced people, rescue workers - whoever needed some free space. I wound up with a great FEMA worker who had come up from Florida to visit hurricane-ravaged areas in Staten Island, Far Rockaway, Breezy Point, etc., to help file insurance claims. I got to both learn firsthand of the major efforts being made to help fellow New Yorkers in distress, and also to do my bit, as small as it was, to help. Couldn’t have done it without Airbnb.”

“My girlfriend and I moved from Seattle to New York using airbnb. We both got into our dream schools but had no funds to actually make the dream come true. We had been looking for apartments to sublease about two months in advance, no knowing that it is actually a very tricky thing to rent in the big apple. We purchased our tickets not knowing where we would sleep once we landed in JFK. I wanted a little more insurance than a hostel or hotel so I decided to take up airbnb so that we would have a place that felt like home and that we could get some advice from a person who was renting or owning an apartment in the city. We booked a pleasant loft for a modest fee. We had 2 weeks at this space. We landed with nowhere to go but our airbnb. Not only did we seek the advice we needed from our host, it was good landing in a city with a one way ticket and going straight to somewhere that felt like a home. The location opened my eyes to the possibilities of living outside Manhattan. We saved money and had the chance to find a place to live in those two weeks. I wouldn’t be here going to school in the city I always dreamed about if it wasn’t for airbnb. You are a wonderful service and I felt safe and confident the whole time from start to finish. I just want to share my story and tell people that they do have to take risks in order to dream. Thanks airbnb.”

As a host, Airbnb has brought so many great people into my life

As a host, Airbnb has brought so many great people into my life, and allowed me to share Brooklyn with people from all over the world. Having spent almost a decade in NYC, it is nice to be able to tell travelers about some of the things you can’t read about in a tour book, as well as accompany them to some of the tourist attractions that I don’t take advantage of as often.”

Thanks AirBnb!

There are lots of great moments and friends that AirBnb has made possible for me. But on a very basic level I feel that many people have extra space in their homes, and it makes sense to share that space for sustainability reasons. Hotels are often large buildings that use a lot of energy. Sharing our homes decreases that energy burden. You can even stay at an off-grid home - how neat is that? It also makes travel more affordable, and why shouldn’t it be? And it’s a more personal experience, which I’ve always prefered since couchsurfing days. Thanks AirBnb!

I live in Queens and was getting married in Manhattan. I wanted a place that felt comfortable. Where photos and videos would offer beautiful natural light and allow me to have my 3 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls, my mother, photographer, videographer, makeup artist, and hair stylist! Imagine fitting 11 of us in 1 of those tiny 250sq ft hotel rooms?? No. AirBNB was really the best option for something more spacious. I found apts in the areas I wanted to take photos in and our host was unbelievably charming and flexible. Without this option we would have had to do everything in Queens and be bussed around the morning of AND had to have been up quite early. I love AirBNB!

AirBNB gives me the opportunity to never miss a moment of my children’s lives

AirBNB has made it possible for me to stay home with my 3 small children full time. Having a 6 month old, 3 year old and 5 year old staying home with them has been so important to us - but we have struggled to make it work financially. AirBNB gives me the opportunity to never miss a moment of my children’s lives. Our separate apartment is the perfect set up for a traveling couple or family visiting Long Island. I love feeling like I am helping to contribute to my family’s income by running the AirBNB rental myself. I love everything about hosting, it gives me a sense of community meeting people from all over and opening up our home. It really has shown me what an amazing world of people are out there. AirBNB has truly saved my family and we are forever grateful.”

“We bought our beloved farmhouse with another family a couple years ago. That other family recently left and we were faced with a mortgage and bills that were beyond our means. We simply could not afford our home by ourselves, yet we have invested so much here - our farm, our animals, our children…we all love it so much. It’s one of those homes that has a character all its own. It’s home; and we didn’t want to leave.
We started hosting on Airbnb to see if we could make a little extra to help keep our home within our budget and sure enough, AirBnb has literally saved us from losing our home! That’s not even mentioning all the wonderful people we have met through hosting! They each leave a little precious piece of them behind and take a little piece of our family with them. It’s truly wonderous!Thank you AirBnb! Politicians and law-makers of NY - please move along and leave AirBnb in peace!”
